Krave: Ghetto Pop R&B Girl Group

Living in A Krave? Your roomies: Chanel, Shan Q & Jazz.

Oh, pardon me! I didn’t mean for my buttockular bouncin’ backside to bump into your soy latte. It’s just that I’m listening to Krave, you see. Yes, Krave. Krave? They’re the awesome booty jam/club banger/independent lady anthem makers from the ATL!

Not ringing a bell? Don’t feel the fool. Though they’ve collabo-ed with Flo-Rida and Akon, the group — Chanel Ross, Jasmine “Jazzy” Kearse and Shanquilla “Shan Q’ Robinson — is relatively under wraps until their debut drops this fall.

In the mizzy tizzy, read on for The Apopcalypse’s chat with the girls and a listen to their new song, “Go Crazy”… Continue reading

TKA, Judy Torres, Cover Girls, Sugar Hill Gang and more at Webster Hall

Back in Queens during the 80s and 90s, freestyle music was to my ears as Aqua Net was to my perm, la vida, ¿sabes? FM: Evan, John, William, Kyle

FM: Evan, John, William, Ken

Ah, those drunken, ugly tales of booze, pantlessness and broken bones that pox the making of a rawk band like oozy lesions ripe with goo!

But really, are they always so bad? Only if you are a Frowny McGee. And that’s not Flying Machines, the cheerful, self-described “rock version of a piano band,” who just released their self-titled debut and play Fontana’s CMJ lineup this Thursday night.

I chatted with FM O.G. John Wlaysewski (guitar, vocals) about how FM nabbed Yahoo and Converse music awards and got a jam on USA show “Psyche.” Their secret to success? Utter chaos (re: pee, pantlessness, broken bones etc mentioned above). Continue reading

Stewart’s Andrea Tarka: Fist-Pumping APopPunkcalypse!

Last Thursday, I needed to take a shower. You know how it goes, time just moves so fast watching LOL Cats compilations, days disappear and suddenly your hair is all Dippety-Do, only yuckzo, it’s Dippity-You. BUT. Stewart was playing at Fontana’s. STEWART!

Decisions, derisions. My body had already burned holes through my clothes, so what else to lose? I headed to the rollicking pop-punk band, fronted by the orsum Andrea Tarka. She writes songs with her manz (and lead guitar) Johnny White and lured hotties Chris Clement (bass) and Kevin Cerovich (drums) to round out the sounds.

The Apopcalypse scored a triple dooper bonus chat with Andrea. See what she has to say about running shiz, mixing bizness with hawt, raunchy, pleasure, and The Apopcalypse of Punk… Continue reading
